Henry VIII was the Tudor monarch who was king during the English Reformation, which was when the Church of England broke away from the authority of the Pope and the Roman Catholic Church. In this event, Henry’s main interest was marriage. He wanted to be able to remarry. Henry wanted a male heir to his throne and continued marrying women until one of his wives could give him a son. He first married Catherine, but divorced her after becoming fed up with her inability to give him a male child. He then married Anne Boleyn. She gave birth to Elizabeth, but was eventually falsely accused of incest and adultery and was executed. The day of the execution Henry was engaged to Jane Seymour who gave him the son Edward. He married again to ensure the thrown would go to his sons. He married Anne of Cleves. He eventually had interests in the daughter of the Duke of Norfolk, Catherin Howard. He found out that she had an affair with Thomas Culpeper and previously had an affair with Francis Dereham. All three were executed. His last wife was Catherine Parr. Parr helped him reconcile with his daughter’s Mary and Elizabeth.
